The food was incredible, full of bold flavors and authentic taste. I started with the dim sum, which was fresh, delicate, and perfectly steamed. The Peking duck was a highlight, with crispy skin and tender meat. The Kung Pao chicken was spicy, flavorful, and had a great balance of textures with peanuts and vegetables. Portions are generous, and the dishes are well-seasoned without being overly salty or oily.
I saw the cute minimal interior to I had to give this place a try. The tables are white with black and white chairs and it was very spacious inside. Our server was really nice and we got our order fairly quickly. The food was amazing! I don't get the chance to get Chinese food often so I'm so glad I came here. We got the cold pig ears, liver, and rice paper rolls with Chinese donuts and shrimp and chives and I must say I'm very impressed. They were all very flavorful so I didn't feel the need to add any additional condiments. I will definitely come back in the future!
PROS: Clean interior with good, authentic Chinese food. The scallion ginger chicken was addictive and aromatic ($16.95). It's excellent on its own and even better with rice. I also enjoyed the pumpkin & shrimp fried in salted egg yolk batter ($18.95) - generous amount of large shrimps and the salted egg yolk flavor was just right. CONS: I would skip the chili oil chicken (a bit bland and mostly bones; $10.95) and the fish cake with fungus dish (the menu was a bit misleading and we thought it would be actual fish pieces, not fish cakes; $15.95). Overall good but not outstanding or anything special. Service was standard. Easy parking in the big lot out front. Stop by the Japanese bakery in the same complex on your way out!
This restaurant looks very clean with white tables and white walls. They recently painted their tables so the tables still have a paint odor. The service is very attentive. Everyone seems nice and was thorough in their explanation on menu items. Food was very tasty. Their hot pot rice casserole is not the same as the regular rice casseroles cooked in the pot. For this restaurant, after the food is cooked, they just put it in a casserole pot like a decoration. It's good but not what I expected. Their steamed rolls, chow fun were very yummy. Can't wait to go back to try something else.
I've continued to see people saying great things about Taste of Original on Yelp and on social media. I stopped in to order takeout while between meetings in the area. It was easy to find and there is plenty of parking in the parking lot where the restaurant is. I walked in and was immediately greeted. I let them know I wanted to place an order for takeout and got Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup ($11.95), a Pork Noodle Roll ($7.95), and a Beef Noodle Roll ($7.95). They let me know it would be about ten minutes and I sat at the benches at the front of the restaurant. While I was there many diners were enjoying their meals and coming in and out of the restaurant. It was open, bright and clean with plenty of seats available. It seems like it's mostly four top tables. My food came out and I was able to take it home after my meetings to enjoy. I loved that they packed the broth separate from the noodles and veggies for the wonton soup, this kept the noodles from getting soggy. The broth was light and flavorful and the wontons were very tasty. Rice rolls are a favorite dish for me and these were delicious. The noodles were folded around the meat nicely, creating layers of noodle and meat in each bite. The sauce that came with it paired perfectly as well. I'll be back for more of these for sure. I would love to dine in next time, but it's a solid choice for takeout as well. They also have a lot more items on their menu that I would love to try in the future.
Went in to try this new old place that changed hands recently. Food is decent, Chinese broccoli was a bit hard and thick (could have been halved) and the bbq pork and duck were a little dry on the clay pot rice. The rest of the food was phenomenal! Ordered the crispy rice noodle dish that's their specialty and I can see why! Best rice noodles I've ever had! Service was fast and efficient, loved their pull out extendable tables all around. It's a bustling environment with high table turn over but totally worth it!
Pleasantly surprised to find the nicely decorated interior of this establishment and a stark contrast to the tired look of the previous occupant known as Happy Corner. Service is fast and efficient. The staff is friendly and welcoming, which is another nice surprise compared to the curt and dismissive treatment of many other similar type of restaurants. Food is always fresh and everything we've tried is super tasty and comes in generously sized portion. The fried rice with dried scallops is our favorite dish as it has the perfect balance of spices and not greasy at all. It's similar to the one at Dragon Beaux but even better as you can taste the dried scallops more. The porridge is comforting and also not greasy. The sautéed ong choy or tong choi or morning glory is crisp and tender at the same time, which can be achieved due to the fast cooking and searing heat from the wok. The seafood and tofu clay pot is nicely seasoned and is addicting especially when eaten with warm steamed rice. The empress chicken is done right and has the perfect amount of seasoning which brings out the fresh flavor of the chicken. Their trademark dish of Fujian fried rice noodle is as good as it looks. I never had this anywhere before even when traveling to China so it's another pleasant surprise to find this world class dish in Sacramento out of all places. I highly recommend this place and is now becoming our go to place for family dining.
Taste of Original? Pretty dang good! Always plenty of seating, and parking is abundant. If Google Maps says it's busy, don't believe it - probably just the traffic from the nearby building. The staff might not speak much English, but their customer service is still on point. Two clean restrooms yes, please! the BBQ pork and duck with steamed rice in a clay pot and the tofu cubes. Everything was delicious, making my taste buds do a happy dance. can't wait to go back and devour the rest of the menu. This spot is a hidden gem worth every bite!
This place feels like a good friend's grandpawpaw's home. And I mean that. Only place where I can find amazing congee. The meats are fantastic and feels like I'm transported in a different country. You can tell this is the spot to go for authentic food. Vibe is bright and straight forward menu. Service is amazing, they make the congee fresh and again, it's the best. I cannot wait to go back. I love this place.
Homey Chinese restaurant. Plenty of parking outside. Next to Dollar Tree. The sign of the restaurant is small and a bit unassuming. Credit cards and Apple Pay are accepted. Bathroom in the back of the restaurant. The food was so good that we placed an order of food to take home for dinner. Cheung fun (steamed rice roll) is the thing to get here. You can add egg for $1.50. I liked the beef better than the shrimp. Maybe because they used smaller sized shrimp. Congee is also popular, but I didn't try it. Mushroom beef comes with some string beans, so this is a good well-rounded dish. Honey garlic spareribs were sweet. I thought it was tasty, but the meat had tiny bones. The satay egg & shrimp chow fun was good too. Service was good. They would refill our waters. They spoke English and Chinese with us. I'd be back!
